I want to tell in deepest grief
The saddest thing I ever heard
I wasn't able to believe
The demise of my lovely bird

My sweetest dear, this little clown
He cannot fly, he cannot sing
My bird is daily falling down
And suffers from a broken wing

His last winter ended in green
Till summer he wanted to stay
No flowers had his small eyes seen
As spring covered him with clay

And one day when he falls again
He'll remain lying on the ground
Nobody cares, believe me, when
He says goodbye without a sound
